Free Crochet Flower Coaster Pattern – Easy Video Tutorial

Let’s be clear – crochet flower coasters are perfect as a quick project and make great gifts. You will be able to make a cute flower coaster set even if you are new to crochet. This flower coaster crochet pattern uses basic stitches.

Popular crochet patterns take inspiration from specific flowers, such as a sunflower or a daisy flower coasters. I would say that this free crochet coaster pattern resembles a hibiscus flower, but with six petals. That said, all cute coasters can brighten up your home and add a pop of color to your daily life.

Make these beautiful crochet coasters and level up your home decor – I’m sure you will love this pattern!

In this article, you will find a written pattern.

About The Project

My easy crochet coaster pattern is worked in the round using basic stitches. First, we start with a magic ring and a round of single crochets. Then, we build up the flower round by round to create a dense body of stitches. Finally, we create rounded petals to create a nice shape.

This beginner-friendly pattern will work for any yarn weight, but the final size may differ. I made two versions – bigger and smaller, using two different yarn weights and hook sizes. The smaller one is more delicate and decorative, while the other is more sturdy, perfect for keeping your coffee table safe and clean.

This free pattern uses standard US terms. Learn more about the differences between UK and US crochet terms in my article.

What Yarn Should You Use to Make Coasters?

The type of yarn you choose will greatly impact the final effect. Cotton yarn will work great if you want to make a functional flower coaster. Choose this type of yarn over acrylic, because it is heat-resistant and absorbs fluids. Go for a medium yarn weight, such as worsted or DK.

Can I use any yarn besides cotton for the coasters?

To make a coaster, you can use any natural yarn, such as bamboo, linen, or blends. You can also go for super sturdy yarns, such as raffia or twine, for a more rustic look and thickness.

Avoid wool, as it is too squishy and won’t offer enough support to the mug on top. There’s no place for acrylics in the kitchen, too – it melts in contact with hot surfaces and won’t absorb fluids.

How to Prevent Coasters From Sliding Around?

You can glue a non-slip backing to the back of the flower so it doesn’t slide around.
