The difference between mesh and lace
Although the line between the two is thin, the difference lies in their complexity.
Simple, geometric patterns with many repeats most often fall into the mesh stitch category. They also have more and bigger eyelets, creating a net-like structure.
Ornamental, decorative patterns with tighter structure are usually called lace stitches.

The trick lies in the shape of the openwork – originally, it would be square, but here the shape of the negative space is slightly rounded at the top.

Yet another lovely mesh stitch variation from Nordic Hook is probably my favorite of the three. This version is more sturdy and won’t stretch nearly as much as the others, thanks to solid blocks of double crochets. The pattern is simply beautiful – with delicate tear-shaped eyelets and small horizontal slits that open and close with every move of the fabric.

Solomon’s Knot C2C Blanket by Red Heart Design Team
The photos really don’t do this blanket justice, because the Solomon’s Knot is absolutely stunning up close! The yarn is tangled in a loose lattice that almost doesn’t look crocheted. This lightweight summer blanket is definitely stunning, but I can imagine this stitch working perfectly in a curtain, bedspread, or beach cover, too.
