Caelia Snowflake Free Crochet Pattern + Video Tutorial

Part 2 of my 2025 crochet snowflake collection is here! This project is light and airy, with a circular center and delicate picots on each arm. Just like the other designs, it uses almost exclusively basic stitches in fun combinations.

  • yarn: 100% cotton thread – you can use Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 Crochet Thread, Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush, or any thread of similar weight.
  • crochet hook 1.5 mm
  • scissors

Measurements

  • 9 cm (3,5″)

Remember that your yarn weight of choice, hook size, and crocheting style can affect the final size of the ornament. Blocking and stiffening are crucial to make it look good.

START

magic ring (click for the tutorial)

ROUND 1

18 sc into the loop, sl st to close the round.

ROUND 2

3 ch, *1 dc, 1 ch* x 17, 1 sl st into the 2nd ch.

ROUND 3

*1 sc in the ch-sp, *3 ch, 1 tr in the next ch-sp, 3 ch, 1 sc in the next ch-sp, 3 ch* x 6, sl st into the first sc of the round.

ROUND 4

1 sl st in the small ch-sp behind your hook, 6 ch, *(1 dc, 3 ch, 1 dc) all into the tr of the previous round, 4 ch, 1 dc into the small ch-sp, 4 ch* x 6, 1 sl st into the 2nd chain st.

ROUND 5

*3 ch, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 tr, 1 ch, 1 dtr, 1 ch, 1 tr, 2 ch, 1 dc) all into the small ch-sp, 3 ch, 1 sl st on the dc of the previous round* x 6

ROUND 6

*3 sc into the ch-sp, (1 sl st, 3 ch, 1 sl st) in the dc, 2 sc into next ch-sp, 1 sl st into the tr, 1 sc between tr and dtr, (1 sl st, 3 ch, 1 sl st) in the tr, 1 sc between tr and dtr, 1 sl st into the tr, 2 sc into next ch-sp, (1 sl st, 3 ch, 1 sl st) in the dc, 3 sc into the ch-sp, 1 sl st into the dc from round 4* x 6. 

Your last slip stitch is your finishing stitch. Cut the yarn and weave in ends, or add a hanging loop by crocheting a chain of your desired length and slip-stitching it to the base.

Block and stiffen your snowflake. Remember to pin every arm of the snowflake and every picot in place to achieve a regular and even look.

It’s ready!
