Astra Snowflake Free Crochet Pattern + Video Tutorial
It’s already week four of my seven-week crochet snowflake collection. Can you believe it? I certainly can’t. Today’s design is small and very quick to make. It will complement your other, bigger snowflakes in a lovely way, because the size difference makes things interesting. As usual, read on for a free written pattern and video tutorials.

- yarn: 100% cotton thread – you can use Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 Crochet Thread, Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush, or any thread of similar weight.
- crochet hook 1.5 mm
- scissors
Measurements
- 8 cm (3.15″)
Remember that your yarn weight of choice, hook size, and crocheting style can affect the final size of the ornament. Blocking and stiffening are crucial to make it look good.
START
magic ring (click for the tutorial)
ROUND 1
12 sc into the loop, sl st to close the round.
ROUND 2
5 ch, *1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, 2 ch* x 6, 1 ch, 1 sl st into the 3rd chain stitch
ROUND 3
8 ch, skip 1 ch-sp, 3 tr into the next (small) ch-sp, *5 ch, skip the bigger ch-sp, 3 tr into the smaller ch-sp* x 5, skip the bigger ch-sp, 2 tr in the smaller ch-sp, sl st into the 3rd chain stitch.
ROUND 4
*11 ch, 1 sl st into the first tr of the previous round, 3 ch, 1 sl st into the third tr* x 6.
ROUND 5
*7 sc into the loop, 3 ch, 7 sc into the loop, 1 sc into the small loop, 3 ch, 1 sc* x 6, sl st somewhere into the base of the snowflake arm.
Cut the yarn and weave in ends. Then, block and stiffen your snowflake. Remember to pin every arm of the snowflake and every picot in place to achieve a regular and even look.
